Episode 12: Legumes in Space with Ted Tagami (Part 1 of 2)

Episode 12: Legumes in Space with Ted Tagami (Part 1 of 2)

October 14, 2021

“You want someone to feel something if you’re going to be involved in an experience. And for me, learning meant I needed to remember something. Like, I remember my dad tripping over me in the early morning hours, because I was watching on this black and white TV on this big ol’ console there in the living room because they were going to the moon - and I remember that moment….those moments are seared in our mind.  And if we can create experiences that are memorable like that...you have to create an experience where everyone feels like they’re in tune with it.” - Ted Tagami

Part 1 of 2! This week, guest host Andrew Whitmire chats with Ted Tagami, CEO of Magnitude.io and Education Chair of the User Advisory Committee for the International Space Station US National Lab. Ted walks us through the career path that led him to the “space space” and gives us an inside look at the experiments that will take place through ExoLab-9 on board the International Space Station. Ted also tells us about the science experiences Magnitude.io makes available to classrooms around the world and offers his advice to students who are interested in careers in space.

Episode 11: Class Recital to American Idol with Rachel Hale

Episode 11: Class Recital to American Idol with Rachel Hale

October 7, 2021

“I would love to touch on this from a perspective of, like, if you might believe differently from me, I still want this to apply to you if you’re listening to this. So, for me, I think all of us can resonate with the idea that we want to make a difference in the world...I was able to learn from so many different beliefs - around my own faith, even!...and so I think I was able to become a better songwriter because I was able to understand different cultures and different ways of thinking.” - Rachel Hale

This week, host Michele Tuck-Ponder fangirls over Rachel Hale - singer, songwriter, American Idol contestant, and DI alum. Rachel walks us through her journey in the music industry, how a class recital launched her path to American Idol, and what it means for her to combine her music and her ministry. Rachel also shares her advice for students who might feel like an underdog, gives us a look at her songwriting process, and tells us why “true, authentic music has to come out of a heart.”

August 19, 2021

Episode 4: From the Peace Corps to the White House and Beyond with Chloe Kontos (Part 1 of 2)

August 12, 2021

“I’m not a scientist, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t work on these issues or work in this domain. So I think that it’s really important to have the courage to try out different domains and areas and not think that you need to be an expert. There are generalist roles in these STEM fields...and that means that you are part of the STEM workforce.” - Chloe Kontos

Part 1 of 2! This week guest host Paige Curtis speaks with Chloe Kontos, the incoming Director of the Office of the CTO at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Chloe shares her experiences in the Peace Corps - “the reason I have everything I have today in my life” - and a career working within three White House administrations.
